An inspiring interview

At Unicorn Events, we champion women in business and women doing something differently.

We love an inspirational story, especially ones that are challenging the norm! Every month we feature 1 inspirational woman and her business chatting about her successes.

COMPANY NAME: Holly Matthews

YOUR NAME: Holly Matthews

Tell us about your business:

I am an online influencer, vlogger, blogger and mindset coach. I also run bossing it! academy, my online, 6 week, ‘no bullsh*t’ self-development academy for those looking to create their own lives and bounce back from the challenges.

What has been the biggest challenge in setting up your business?

Being a busy Mum of 2 girls (Brooke 5 and Texas 3) and my husband having grade 4 brain cancer means I have to work in pockets of time.

What has been your greatest success to date?

I perhaps see success’ differently to most and although I have been a finalist in the Mumsnet blogger awards, have been Twitter verified, appeared in newspapers, on TV and radio, my personal success was launching bossing it! academy just after my husband had second brain surgery and seeing the impact that is having on peoples lives. As my business is self-development, I see my success in others succeeding.

What one piece of advice would you give young, entrepreneurial women wanting to get into business?

Don’t let anyone define you. Find a way to make your business work around you, not just in how much time you spend on it, but in fitting your personality. There is no more stifling feeling that not being your true self. Learn a bossing it! ‘no f*cks given’ attitude and it will hold you in good stead. Truly getting your mindset right is so important. you can learn all the marketing, all the business jargon in the world, but if you crumble after one defeat, one failure, one tricky bit in business, then you won't succeed.

What one thing do you wish we could teach our girls at school?

That they have more power than they can yet imagine and that all the stuff they are worrying about right now will be forgotten. Listen to your inner self, let that guide you.

If you could be anything else in the world what would you be?

If there is something I want to be, I’ll be it. I have high self-esteem and I love what I do. I never look at others with envy, I have worn many hats already, in my life and I teach everyone I work with that they should not limit themselves to one thing (this does make it very annoying when ‘job title’ is placed somewhere on a form!!

What does happiness look like to you?

Connection, discovery, being able to wake up every day and be my true self and do exactly what I want to do. I don’t want rules, I will not get in line and my driver is staying as free as possible.
